The nature of my existence has been that of perpetual searching, study and experimentation. What I am most interested in is composition. Every piece has my story in it. My desire is to communicate from my deepest heart. " |

I am inspired by The Bible as a living document, but an idea for a piece comes from any number of places, a certain frame of mind, a news item. Sometimes it’s as simple as the canvas speaking directly to me. Most of the time I begin with a single color. The story unfolds as I paint, coming to life without force or coercion. A piece is done when the story is told. My work evolves from a notion, develops through intuition, and is evocative rather than descriptive. It is greatly involved with subjectivity and emotions, and even in the end remains transformable. My latest project is called Out of the Wild, which studies the idea of inspiration in relation to our organic growth as human beings. My inspiration comes from the Greek word, “Theopneustos,” which means God-breathed. I describe this creative process as an effortless finding instead of a conflicted rational proposal. I have no ambition to dissociate the artist from the Christian. They are one. My art is not isolated from my soul by some concept of aesthetics. Making Christian art is not easy. Indeed making any art is difficult and making Christian art even more so because the world hates Christ and Christians. Yet He speaks in all things and art is no exception. His awesome mind sings through this artist with color, shape, excitement and truth. I have many earthly influences on my art and my life: Paul Cézanne, Edvard Munch, Winslow Homer, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Willem DeKoonig, Mother Teresa, Jean Vanier, Billy Graham, to name a few.
